Seaport’s Dr. Botwinick is now trained in the Micronail Intramedullary Distal Radius System
 
Seaport Orthopaedic Associates (SOA) is proud to announce that Nelson Botwinick, MD is one of the few hand specialists in New York trained in the Micronail™ Intramedullary Distal Radius System. The Micronail is designed for minimally-invasive fixation of distal radius or wrist fractures. It is particularly useful for patients who have failed non-operative treatments and in osteotomies. Early results of distal radius fractures treated with the Micronail™ Fixation System show faster return of wrist function compared to more traditional techniques.

Dr. Botwinick is Director of Hand Surgery at New York Downtown Hospital as well as an active member of several committees at the institution. He chairs the operating room committee and is an elected officer of the Medical Board. He is actively involved with resident teaching at the hospital and is the primary attending surgeon instructing the residents in the principals of orthopaedics and hand surgery.

Dr. Botwinick is board certified in both Orthopaedic surgery and hand surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Since 1998, he has been listed annually as one of the "Best Doctors" for Hand Surgery by New York Magazine. In addition, he is listed in Castle Connolly's Guide to Top Doctors in the New York metro area. Dr. Botwinick was awarded The New York Downtown Hospital's Trustee Award after September 11th for his outstanding efforts including his life and limb saving surgery.

He is renowned for his treatment of hand arthritis, specifically the thumb. Dr. Botwinick is considered a leader in the treatment of the arthritic thumb, and has one of New York's largest series of patients who have received arthroplasties in the treatment of the arthritic basal joint (where the thumb meets the wrist). Dr. Botwinick's expertise includes the treatment and management of hand, wrist, and elbow injuries. He is recognized for treatment of hand arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. His interests include surgical and non-surgical management of fractures, soft tissue damage, tendon, and ligament injuries.
