Seaport Orthopaedic Associates (SOA) is proud to announce the formalization of its comprehensive Hand Center. This is based upon a full service, unified group approach which offers the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with upper extremity problems.

The Hand Center offers evaluations by our renowned hand surgeon, Nelson Botwinick, MD, coordinated with additional upper extremity consideration and treatment from Andrew Brown, MD, our staff’s senior physiatrist. Additionally, SOA offers an appropriate referral to a certified hand therapist which can be done at the same convenient location.

SOA offers our upper extremity patients all the necessary diagnostic tests: plain x-rays, as well as an extremity dedicated MRI and electro diagnostic testing (NCV and EMG). We also provide ergonomic evaluations, short and long term disability evaluations and functional capacity evaluations. Our clinicians are familiar with both AMA guidelines as well as NY State guidelines for treatment. On referral, our experienced clinical team will review and treat your patients whether or not they are surgical candidates.

SOA’s Hand Center provides appropriate documentation that clearly charts clinical progress and can provide a comprehensive narrative based upon previous treatment. However, in order to optimize the documentation of the clinical course, we strongly recommend sending your patients to us before someone else initiates treatment or surgery.

Dr. Botwinick is Board Certified in both Orthopaedic Surgery and Hand Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Since 1998, he has been listed annually as one of the "Best Doctors" for Hand Surgery by New York Magazine. In addition, he is listed in Castle Connolly’s Guide to Top Doctors in the New York metro area. Dr. Botwinick was also awarded The New York Downtown Hospital’s Trustee Award after September 11, for his outstanding efforts, especially his life and limb saving surgery

Dr. Brown is the Medical Director of Downtown Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as a Senior Physiatrist of Seaport Orthopaedic Associates. He is an expert in non- operative orthopaedic medicine, including the treatment of upper extremity pain, tendonopathies and repetitive strain disorders. He is also recognized as an expert in electro-diagnostic medicine. Dr. Brown has also been recognized by Castle Connolly's Guide to Top Doctors in the New York metro area.
