Interventional/Medical Pain Management
Dr. Andrew Linn is the Director of Pain Management at Seaport Orthopaedic Associates. He is a Harvard-educated physician, with training in Anesthesiology with further subspecialty training in Pain Management. Dr Linn is on the forefront of advanced pain management, incorporating the latest techniques and medical research into his practice to alleviate chronic pain and suffering. He believes in a multi-disciplinary approach to pain management, working with his patients and their families to develop personalized care plans that utilize medications, physical therapy, interventional techniques, and occasionally minor surgery to relieve pain and restore functionality.
Dr Linn has published multiple academic paper and book chapters. His work was honored as best research poster at the prestigious American Academy Pain Medicine annual conference, and has been quoted in the national media; he continues to lecture at national and regional meetings. He was a Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) Resident Scholar, past winner of the White Mountain Research Award, SAMBA Resident Research Travel Award, and a member of the Baxter Resident Leadership Conference. His research has described the effects of epidural steroid injections on blood glucose management in diabetics, epidural steroids effect on bone mineral density, the effectiveness of using botox injections for the treatment of headaches, and the development of tolerance to opioid medications.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in history from U.C. Berkeley, Dr. Linn spent four years in medical school at the University of California San Diego. It was during his first semester here, while rotating through the pain clinic, where he first began to develop his interest in pain management. He saw for the first time patients debilitated by chronic pain able to regain control of their lives with the help of the pain management physician, primarily through the use of medications and injection therapy.
After finishing medical school, Dr. Linn stayed for a year in San Diego doing post-graduate training in general surgery. From here he traveled to Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, where he performed an anesthesiology residency, and served as chief resident. He furthered his training with a fellowship in Pain Management also at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, widely considered one of the top pain management programs in the country.
